Today would have been Selena's 55th birthday...

I grew up hearing Selena Quintanilla through my mom’s world —

a Mexican American girl who was loved, seen, and unforgettable.

She still tells me how it felt the day she found out she was gone.
Like something bright disappeared all at once.

I’ll be honest — I was never really a Tex-Mex girl.
But when it plays, I don’t skip it.
Some things you learn to hold onto because they mean something to the people who raised you.

As a trans girl, I’m still learning what it means to be seen like that.
As her daughter.
As myself.

Some legacies don’t just inspire —
they make space.
