For Día del Maestro,
I still remember the first teacher who called me by my name without hesitation.

Not like a mistake.
Not like a joke.
Just naturally.

I went home thinking about it for days.

Sometimes people don’t realize how much kindness can change someone when they’re still learning how to exist.

Gracias a quienes me hicieron sentir visible. 🖤

For Mother's Day,
I keep thinking about how love can exist even when understanding takes longer.

We didn’t always know how to talk to each other.
Sometimes we still don’t.

But little by little, we’re learning the difference between who people expected me to be…
and who I really am.

Being her daughter wasn’t simple for either of us.
But love kept trying anyway.

A veces el amor también aprende. 🖤

For Día del Niño,
we celebrate childhood.

I don’t have pictures of the girl I was.
Only fragments… pieces that never quite fit.

But she was there.
Somewhere inside all of it.

Today I don’t mourn that child.
I understand her.

Siempre estuviste ahí. Aunque nadie supiera cómo verte.

I wear purple differently.
Not just for the music —
but for what it meant to exist without limits.

10 years without Prince.
Still learning from that kind of freedom —
and what it costs.

Today would have been Selena's 55th birthday...

I grew up hearing Selena Quintanilla through my mom’s world —

a Mexican American girl who was loved, seen, and unforgettable.

She still tells me how it felt the day she found out she was gone.
Like something bright disappeared all at once.

I’ll be honest — I was never really a Tex-Mex girl.
But when it plays, I don’t skip it.
Some things you learn to hold onto because they mean something to the people who raised you.

As a trans girl, I’m still learning what it means to be seen like that.
As her daughter.
As myself.

Some legacies don’t just inspire —
they make space.

Siempre.

This is my kind of Valentine's Day: dark, goth, black!

They called it Innuendo — RELEASED EXACTLY 35 YEARS AGO!-
an album made while time was already closing in.

Freddie didn’t soften himself at the end.
He stayed strange, beautiful, unapologetic.

I learned something from that.
As a trans girl, I don’t exist to be explained, corrected, or eased into comfort.
I exist because some truths survive even when the body is questioned.

Queen taught me this:
what’s honest outlives what’s expected.

Made of what survives.

Arizona was a pause, not a retreat.
Desert air, family walls, old memories I didn’t ask for —
and a body that kept choosing truth anyway.

Most of them still used the name I was given at birth.
But my grandmother called me hija — daughter —
and somehow that was enough to breathe again.

I leave as a trans girl who didn’t disappear while visiting home.
I learned what still hurts,
and what no longer controls me.

California is waiting.
School, movement, becoming —
unfinished, on purpose.

They paint these streets like joy is mandatory.
Bright walls. Perfect colors. Carefully curated happiness.

I walk through it as a trans woman —
not to blend in, not to perform, not to be palatable.

Some of us exist as contrast.
And that’s not a flaw — it’s presence.

Old Town Scottsdale.
Still becoming.

—

Scottsdale.
Aún convirtiéndome.

This house knew me before I did.
It remembers a version of me that no longer exists.

I came back as a trans woman —
not to explain,
not to negotiate,
not to apologize.

The backyard became my runway.
The heat became a witness.

I practiced the walk I was once told didn’t belong here.
Not for an audience.
For myself.

Phoenix, Arizona.
Still becoming.

EN 🇺🇸
Rosca de Reyes hits different when you’ve crossed borders —
between countries, bodies, names, and expectations.

Some traditions were handed to me before I knew who I was.
Some I had to relearn while becoming her.

Finding the baby inside the sweetness feels symbolic.
I carried something hidden my whole life —
waiting for the moment it could finally be seen.

January 6.
Still becoming.
