Senior journalist Palki Sharma has raised concerns about the growing influence of social media on education, warning that excessive dependence on reels and algorithm-driven content could weaken critical thinking among young people. She cautioned that when short-form videos replace textbooks and algorithms begin shaping how students learn, the result could be a generation less equipped to question information, recognise misinformation and think independently. She also highlighted the potential implications for national security in an era of digital propaganda and online manipulation. While social media has made information more accessible, the debate centres on how it is used. Reading habits, formal education, fact-checking and reliable sources remain essential for building an informed generation. #PalkiSharma #SocialMedia india #CriticalThinking #mews
