The subscription economy has turned everyday technology into a recurring expense. Cloud storage, home security, ad-free browsing, and even basic communication increasingly come with monthly fees. But there’s an alternative: devices that let you store terabytes of data at home, back up photos without cloud subscriptions, block ads across your entire network, and send messages miles away without cellular service. Many of these technologies have existed for years, yet most people have never heard of them. They’re a reminder that owning your technology can be more powerful than renting access to it. Comment DRILLS and I’ll DM you the info for the Drawing Drills course. A landscape gets much easier to draw when you stop thinking about trees, rocks, and texture and start looking for simple forms. For this beach scene, I use a cylinder to construct the fallen tree and simple boxes to establish the rocks and stones. Those basic 3D forms give you perspective, volume, orientation, and a structure for everything that comes next. Once the forms feel solid, start modifying them. Break the edges, change the silhouettes, add cracks, bark, shadows, and smaller details. This is one of the most important habits when learning how to draw: build the structure before getting distracted by the surface. Form before texture. Large shapes before small shapes.
