Awareness doesn’t ALWAYS influence behavior change.

Think about it.

That annoying seatbelt beeping sound in cars?
It doesn’t educate you.
It doesn’t explain safety statistics.

It just keeps disturbing you… until you wear your seatbelt.

That’s behavior change.

Or take companies like Piala Inc that give extra paid leave to non-smokers who don’t take smoking breaks.

They didn’t run awareness campaigns.
They changed the incentive.

And behavior followed.

This is the part we don’t talk about enough in public health:

People don’t always act because they know better.
They act because the system around them makes it easier, faster, or more rewarding to do so.

If we really want to change outcomes, in health, in communities, in everyday life, we have to move beyond just “telling people what to do.”

We have to design for behaviour.

Because awareness is important…
but it is not enough.
