![@hunterschafer knows how to disappear into a character.
As Jules in ‘Euphoria,’ she played lifeline to @zendaya’s Rue; as teenager Gretchen in the movie ‘Cuckoo,’ she took on her first full-on body-horror role; and as assistant Hilda in ‘Mother Mary,’ she was caught between the drama of two complicated mega-divas. Now, as she prepares for her first TV role as a lead in @primevideo’s ‘Blade Runner 2099,’ she’s also had a great time playing a totally different role: herself.
With her 28th birthday later this year and some major personal developments in her rearview, Schafer finds herself reflecting on her early 20s—even as she looks ahead to what she calls her “new life”: “[I’m] okay with riding this very strange, sometimes terrifying, and a lot of the time really delicious wave. Being down for the ride and not trying to push back against it, or self-sabotage.”
For ELLE’s November 2026 cover story, Schafer opens up about ‘Blade Runner 2099,’ queerness, and a personal life update that, up until now, only her closest family and friends knew about. Read the full interview at the link in bio.
