We stand under the same sun, but not from the same place and that difference doesn’t soothe, it exposes.
The city promised refuge; instead it reorganizes violence, displaces it, asks you to adjust to its rhythm. Many in this series arrived chasing the possibility of being. What they found was negotiation: the family that rejects, the system that pushes, the precarity that persists, shifted, not erased.
What ties these images together is the body: fragile, fleeting, stubbornly present. Asafe’s gaze meets that moment between private and public, where identity is performed, imagined, held. Photography here is an act of care, aesthetic choices that protect intimacy rather than violate it. Care means control: knowing how far to intervene and when to hold back.
These pictures come from inheritance and endurance, from abandonment that repeats and from the stubborn desire to keep appearing, to build beauty despite exhaustion.
How exhausting to hold yourself here, and how brave to keep dreaming.
