Lil Durk has been in federal custody since October 2024 after being arrested and charged in a high-profile murder-for-hire conspiracy tied to an August 2022 shooting in Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege that he orchestrated and funded an attempt to kill fellow rapper Quando Rondo as retaliation for the 2020 killing of his close friend and collaborator King Von, claiming he enlisted associates from his Only The Family (OTF) collective to travel from Chicago to LA with the intent to carry out the hit.
Authorities say the attempted murder instead resulted in the death of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, during a shooting at a Beverly Hills gas station — and that Lil Durk could face life in prison if convicted.
Durk has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team has filed motions to dismiss the indictment, arguing that prosecutors based parts of their case on misleading evidence, including lyrics from his music that were recorded before the alleged incident.
A judge has denied bond, meaning Durk remains in jail ahead of trial, and federal prosecutors have noted additional related charges, including conspiracy and weapons counts linked to the murder-for-hire plot.
There’s also been a civil wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of the shooting victim alleging Durk and others should be held responsible in civil court.
In a notable development, federal prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty in the case, though the charges still carry the possibility of life imprisonment.
