Now like we said, if you genuinely disagree with a parenting decision or strategy, you two need to be able to talk about it, just not in the moment.
We use the analogy of a sports team: it’s really hard to talk through the play when you’re still on the field and emotions are running high. But if you two come together later in a huddle or a locker room debrief, it starts to feel like a real team discussion rather than a confrontation.
You could say something like, “Hey, can we debrief our approach to when she asks to go out at night?” or “Can we game plan for situations when [this comes up] because I want us to be an even more united team?”
That kind of productive conversation changes everything.
Now, we can already hear some of you thinking “there’s no way we could give each other feedback without it turning into a fight” or “we’d just trigger each other.”
