Chris Brown’s former housekeeper has agreed to accept $9.5 million in damages, ending the immediate threat of a new damages trial in her lawsuit over a 2020 dog att*ck at the singer’s California home. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Maria Avila accepted the reduced award after a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge gave her two options: take the lower amount or proceed with another trial focused specifically on damages. Avila previously secured a $12.9 million judgment after alleging she was viciously att*cked by Brown’s dog while working at his Tarzana residence in 2020. However, the judge later determined there was not enough evidence supporting certain portions of the award, including claims involving nerve damage and other injuries. The court granted Brown’s request for a new damages trial unless Avila agreed to a reduced payout. Newly filed documents show she has now accepted the $9.5 million figure. The revised award includes $3.85 million for past non-economic losses, $5.4 million for future non-economic losses and $250,000 for anticipated future medical expenses. The agreement lowers Brown’s financial obligation by approximately $3.4 million compared with the original jury award. Avila’s lawsuit stemmed from the alleged att*ck at Brown’s property, which she said left her with serious physical and emotional injuries. While the latest filing significantly cuts the original judgment, the singer still faces a multimillion-dollar payout connected to the incident. The reduced award allows Avila to avoid the uncertainty of returning to court and potentially receiving a different damages determination.
