There was something so magical and therapeutic about this. After collecting my hair for years, I’ve been reflecting on the ties between hair and identity (the عقد) we inherit, the way hair carries the DNA of our ancestors. Here, I carry out a ritual of release, attempting to heal the wounds held in my knots. I cut, collect, burn, repeat.
One of my favorite parts of glass blowing is the choreography that emerges, how you need to plan each step while embracing the uncertainty and chemistry of the material. It becomes a dance between multiple people, one you can’t do alone.
Thank you to
@poushhotglass,
@andrew_erdos and
@glassblowing_wildling for letting me bring this idea to the flame, despite not knowing the outcome. And for putting up with the smell of my burnt hair… We were all experimenting with this process for the first time, completely unsure of what would remain.
*final results incoming…
