“let me bring you silver on dragon back” (no measurements as of now. there’s a reason I chose art over math, so there’s my hand for scale) a series of jewelry holders that I like to hold for a while this felt like the only thing I wanted to make, carve creatures out of clay and make myself everything I needed that I didn’t wanna buy by @aliaa___withadoublea

There was something so magical and therapeutic about this. After collecting my hair for years, I’ve been reflecting on the ties between hair and identity (the عقد) we inherit, the way hair carries the DNA of our ancestors. Here, I carry out a ritual of release, attempting to heal the wounds held in my knots. I cut, collect, burn, repeat. One of my favorite parts of glass blowing is the choreography that emerges, how you need to plan each step while embracing the uncertainty and chemistry of the material. It becomes a dance between multiple people, one you can’t do alone. Thank you to @poushhotglass, @andrew_erdos and @glassblowing_wildling for letting me bring this idea to the flame, despite not knowing the outcome. And for putting up with the smell of my burnt hair… We were all experimenting with this process for the first time, completely unsure of what would remain. *final results incoming… by @aliaa___withadoublea

Zine-making workshop 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 by Aliaa Kurdi @aliaa___withadoublea 🗓 Saturday, August 23 🕓 16:00–18:00 📍 Floating University Berlin Lilienthalstraße 32 10965 Berlin A moment of remembering, forgiving, and honoring through poetry and craft. In this workshop, we will create zines about our relationship to one or both of our grandmothers. Whether this connection was soft, harsh, or absent, this is a space to retrace and reshape the thread that ties us to our ancestors. The zines will be bound with safety pins and crafted from paper and fabric that can be embroidered, a practice many inherit from their grandmothers. What to Bring: ✦ Anything that connects you to your lineage, whether it’s a physical heirloom or your own interpretation ✦ Optional: materials to include or use as inspiration for your zine, such as a family photograph or a piece of embroidery A registration is required to participate in this workshop. Please find the link attached on the bio. About Aliaa Kurdi: Aliaa is a Saudi multidisciplinary artist and writer working across ceramics, photography, painting, and poetry. Based between Jeddah and Berlin, her practice explores memory, migration, and the quiet rituals of everyday life, drawing on heritage crafts, overlooked narratives, and the absence of personal archives. She merges text with visual work—embedding poetry into ceramics, illustrations, and textiles, or creating artist books to house her writing. Through layered, tactile forms, she investigates how we hold onto people, places, and traditions in a rapidly shifting world. This episode is supported by Projektfonds Kulturförderung Friedrichshain Kreuzberg Berlin in collaboration with Queer Analog Darkroom, Aßila Beer and Floating e.V. Last photo by non other than 📸 Neel, capturing Aliaa and I being our lil creature selves 💗 Check out @aliaa___withadoublea and @neelgupta ´s work 🤍🤍🤍 by @aliaa___withadoublea
my lil punk rock vampire 🧛🏼‍♀️ this one is super special to me 💖 she’s the first of this series that I made. It seems “what we do in the shadows” was on my mind because it took on a life of its own and decided it wanted to be a vampire instead of a quirky gap-toothed gal 🦷 *sold out* will be making more in May 👀 by @aliaa___withadoublea

Introducing: Aliaa Kurdi @aliaa___withadoublea (b. 1994, Jeddah) Resident Artist – Exploring Memory, Lineage, and Intuitive Craft Aliaa Kurdi is a Saudi multidisciplinary artist based between Jeddah and Berlin. Her practice spans ceramics, painting, poetry, and textiles, translating conceptual fixations into physical forms. Rooted in themes of memory, dreams, and identity, she investigates how we hold onto people, places, and traditions in a rapidly shifting world. During her residency, Aliaa returned to her hometown to reconstruct a lineage fragmented by time and migration. Working with family photographs, found fabrics, and everyday encounters, she explored the unreliability of memory and the distortion of personal archives. Her stitched textile compositions and memory-based portraits mirror the act of repair—intuitive, imperfect, and deeply felt. Spontaneous interactions with neighbors, stray cats, and domestic materials shaped her evolving visual language, turning the residency house into both a site of investigation and a container for memory, care, and maternal reflection. by @aliaa___withadoublea
“she weaved imaginary beings into a braided dream” inspired by the book of imaginary beings, this piece is a slow, meditative process of cutting, pasting, and interlacing—fragments broken apart and reassembled. It echos the way childhood memories shift, distort and take on new shapes over time. *reused aluminum, magazine scraps, pencil and watercolors on paper* 1st & last photos shot by @g.lochis by @aliaa___withadoublea
this bb zine I made is a stream of consciousness, surrendering to the flow of words that come, the colors my hands gravitate towards and the way they take form on paper. using my oil pastels from the 3rd grade and recording it with the swimming pool I learned how to swim in as the background. the colors and streams of my childhood reflect the unreliability of memory. when memories intertwine with dreams, I’m left with clouds of blur. after almost a decade of voicing our intentions to mix her music with my poetry/voice over, @_lapis_______ and i finally took this bb step to merge the two. thank you @_lapis_______ for the dreamy sound design 🌧️ by @aliaa___withadoublea
