Five medical students wanted to understand the doctors who practice in West Virginia's smallest communities. So they started a podcast.

Mountaineer Medical Hour, produced by students at the WVU School of Medicine, features long-form conversations with rural physicians about how they built their careers, why they stayed, and what they've learned. Recent guests include Dr. Mary Long on addiction medicine and Dr. Joanna Bailey, a School of Medicine alumna practicing in a rural West Virginia community.

In a state that leads the country in nearly every chronic disease category, these conversations matter. They also give future physicians a clearer picture of what rural practice actually looks like, one story at a time.
