Our last get together 🥲 We don’t know when we’ll all be together like this again. I wish nothing but success for every single person in this house. May Tamasha be the beginning of beautiful opportunities and may it open doors for each of us to achieve everything we’ve ever wished for. ✨
This 2014 political cartoon highlights growing concerns in the United States over homelessness, suicide, and untreated post-traumatic stress disorder among military veterans returning from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. By the early 2010s, reports from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs revealed that thousands of veterans were experiencing homelessness each night, while rising awareness of veteran suicide sparked national discussions and efforts to improve mental health care. PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, substance abuse, and the challenges of adjusting to civilian life were increasingly recognized as lasting consequences of military service following September 11, 2001. The cartoon also references the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, a memorial established in 1921 to honor unidentified American service members who died in war. The imagery draws attention to the contrast between honoring fallen soldiers and caring for veterans who return home.
