Photographs can capture the final moments of people, animals and landmarks before they disappear forever. From the last years of Keiko, the famous orca from Free Willy, to the collapse of Australia’s London Bridge and the destruction of the World Trade Center, these images preserve pieces of history that can never be recreated.

Other photographs tell equally heartbreaking stories, including the extinction of the baiji dolphin, the death of beloved polar bear Knut and the gradual deterioration of the Titanic beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Each image serves as a reminder that even the most familiar things can disappear, leaving behind photographs as evidence that they once existed. 📸🕰️🥀
