As a fledgling journalist with The Weekly Sun magazine, I read up and wrote more about Michael Jackson than any other human being on this planet. I was already a huge fan of course.
And as luck would have it, one of the first things I was involved with after joining the music industry was the simultaneous release of ‘Bad’ in India in 1988, which became the largest selling international music album at the time.
So one went to watch ‘Michael’ the biopic featuring Jaafar Jackson with a lot of enthusiasm and some trepidation after reading the negative reviews.
Two hours later, I’m a fan all over again. Reliving the music and the moments, getting some insights into the man, the music and the videos and choking up at various moments.
For any Michael fans, it’s a must watch.
Yes, much is glossed over but as my friend Soumitra Maitra said, “Even four hours wouldn’t suffice to tell the whole story”.
There’s much detail that you need to catch which is almost incidental, there are some insights into the music business and then there’s the music!
The casting is top notch and all the performances are spectacular.
A lot is left out as well but if you just focus on what’s included, you should love it.
There’s never been an artiste like Michael and like a lot of folks, I’m sure there never will be.
There’s talk of a sequel since this one stops with the release of ‘Bad’ but whether that happens or not, this one captures his greatest musical moments.
Long live the King of Pop!

I truly felt the same, sir! This film's focus on a specific area of his life was brilliant, and I absolutely loved it. It was incredibly enlightening. What an amazing film – I'm an even bigger fan now! ❤️❤️❤️

Please allow me to say this, Atul: I don't read everything. But I read everything you write. And I'm glad I do. Thank you for this heartwarming review. ❤️
