✨🫶🏽This was the first birthday that I was able to write a complete letter in her birthday card. Most years I will write simple sentences and reframe from expressing emotions, that may be at the time I feel like she could not understand. I did go into depth this time and as I was writing it, I understood that she will be able to read it and understand my words. To understand how much she means to me. I honestly thought she was going to see it and quickly glance at it lol. Then as I told her three times read it when you get off the phone. She refused and read it right in front of me. It showed me how much she cared about the words that were on the paper. These days we can communicate with each other on a different level. Although I miss the little baby that was so sweet and always happy, I appreciate how much she has matured and is already navigating through life. She’s not only intelligent and funny but has more artistic skill than I have as an adult. Possessing the ability to care for others when they are without shows how thoughtful of a person she growing to be.
I am beyond proud of her to be my niece and proud of the way that my sister and Kit have raised her. As my sister, Kit and I and most Asian children have learned to grow up through fear, which I think is a great idea. 😉
My sister has taken the time to understand her feelings, and has reminded me that parenting is different these days. I guess it’s working. lol
