A federal immigration officer shot a 28-year-old Dominican man in the neck as he drove with a 5-year-old boy in New York City Thursday, officials said. The man, identified by police as Oscar Belgal, survived and was treated at a hospital. According to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, two plainclothes federal officers approached Belgal’s car with guns drawn as he pulled into a parking space. When he began moving forward, at least one officer fired seven rounds, hitting him below the left ear. The Department of Homeland Security said officers were attempting to arrest Belgal in a targeted enforcement operation, describing him as a “criminal illegal alien” with a grand larceny conviction and other arrests. Tisch said Belgal pleaded guilty to grand larceny after a 2023 robbery arrest and was sentenced to probation. He was later arrested on a drug-sale charge and has pleaded not guilty in that case, according to electronic court records. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the shooting an outrage, saying, “There is no justification for what we have seen today.” He said the officers wore construction vests and masks, making it difficult to identify them as immigration officers. The shooting comes amid broader scrutiny of ICE officers’ use of force during vehicle stops. Since last year, officers have fired their weapons during more than a dozen such incidents, killing at least four people and wounding others, according to The Associated Press. 📷: Getty Images 📹: AP Newsroom

Somewhere along the way, the world became a little less colorful. 🎨 We started choosing neutral cars, beige homes, muted clothes, minimalist interiors, and safe designs. We called it modern. We called it clean. We called it sophisticated. But maybe color was never the problem. Maybe we simply became more comfortable blending in than standing out. Because color brings personality. It adds emotion, energy, and life to ordinary spaces. 🌈✨ The world still has every color imaginable. Maybe we just need to be brave enough to choose them again. ❤️ 🇯🇵 Meanwhile, in Japan, there’s a place where nature and tradition exist side by side. In Nara, hundreds of deer freely roam around temples, pathways, parks, and visitors. 🦌🌸 These deer are deeply connected to local culture and are traditionally regarded as sacred messengers associated with the gods. Visitors can even feed them special crackers called shika senbei. 🍘 Some deer have become famous for making a small bow-like movement with their heads while waiting for food. And when the crackers are finished, showing your empty hands is a simple way of telling them there’s nothing left. 🤍 Despite being comfortable around people, they are still wild animals, so respecting their space is important. A place where history, spirituality, wildlife, and everyday life come together in one unforgettable experience. 🇯🇵✨
