Flower of Chivalry
2026 on Procreate
*gonna upload this on my website in a bit bc this app is the worst for sharing digital illustrations at a decent dpi 🍅
Irises have long been my favorite flower, and just in time for iris season I finished this lil illustration on their history.
Some iris flower facts:
They are named after the Greek goddess who led the souls of dead women to the Elysian Fields. Purple irises were planted on the graves of women. There are fields of irises growing on past battle fields because irises were left on the graves of fallen soldiers.
Irises were used as a symbol of heraldry, by which coats of arms were chosen and allocated. The French fleur-de-lis is an example, which was adapted during the Crusades by Louis VII
The Iris was thought of as the “flower of chivalry,” because its sharp and long leaves resemble swords and the flower itself the heart.
