I found the dudiest dude to do…

The Eagles’ 19–17 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday came down to a costly decision from Nick Sirianni. Jake Elliott drilled a 48-yard field goal to give Philadelphia a 17–16 lead with just eight seconds remaining, but Sirianni chose to keep the ensuing kickoff in play. Ameer Abdullah returned it 53 yards, leaving one second for Cam Little to hit the game-winning 57-yard field goal. Philadelphia was seconds away from escaping London with a victory before that decision opened the door for disaster.

What makes the decision so frustrating is that Jacksonville had no timeouts left. A kickoff through the end zone would have placed the Jaguars at their own 35, forcing them to gain ground with almost no time remaining. Jacksonville had already shown how dangerous its return game could be, while Philadelphia’s coverage unit had lost Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to an earlier ejection. Asking that unit to defend another return introduced a risk the Eagles had every reason to avoid.

Sirianni admitted afterward, “I didn’t make the right decision, and I lost us that game.” The Eagles had other problems throughout the afternoon, and the kickoff coverage still needed to execute, but his decision directly created Jacksonville’s final opportunity. The defeat dropped Philadelphia to 2–3 and extended its losing streak to three games. For fans, the most painful part is knowing the Eagles had fought their way into position to win, only to watch their head coach’s judgment help undo it in eight seconds.
