There are days that really make me fall in love with my job again and again. This summer morning in Paris was one of them. When Van Cleef & Arpels shared with me a year ago that Egypt was going to be the theme of their latest high jewellery collection, Fascinating Egypt, I could only imagine it photographed for Vogue Arabia on my dearest Amina El-Demirdash, a fantastic artist and the great-granddaughter of Egypt’s Queen Nazli. Although we are still mourning the theft of Queen Nazli’s iconic heritage necklace, stolen in Austria (and worn by Amina on an iconic Vogue Arabia cover in October 2019), I will forever hold on to these images of Fascinating Egypt that we produced, which brought such a meaningful and luxurious statement to our September issue. Thank you, Amina, Van Cleef & Arpels and the entire team, for allowing us to execute this glorious project! Repost @voguearabia Few civilisations have cast a spell as enduring as Egypt’s. Its motifs have travelled across centuries into the imaginations of artists who have never set foot along the Nile. It is this ever-reigniting fascination that pulses through Van Cleef & Arpels’ breathtaking new high jewellery collection, Fascinating Egypt, comprising 180 creations. To tell the story, the Maison turned to artist and great-granddaughter of Queen Nazli of Egypt #AminaElDemirdash, who embodies the living thread that connects the Pharaonic age to the present day. “It’s undeniable that ancient Egypt holds a timeless magic, and it will always remain a constant source of inspiration for modern Egypt,” El Demirdash reflects. this look deserved it’s OWN moment
We started going on small walks with Aurelia. So far, she loves to be held, is ok in the wrap carrier, but does not like being alone in a stroller (we’re working on this one). We don’t look this refreshed every day…most days are now spent nap trapped in our living room (like the last photo).
