You asked for rare HIM Demos, so here it is, enjoy!
"Razorblade Kiss" was recorded in 1998. It was originally titled “Razorblade Romance”yes, like the album title. The song is over 5 minutes long, and I can’t stress enough how wonderful the melody and lyrics are. It deserves much more than a 1 minute video, it deserves to be analyzed verse by verse.
Origin: The demo comes from the early recording sessions "Slippery When Dead" era (a Bon Jovi-inspired joke title).
It was written during this same creative period of “Join Me in D3ath”. Some say the band recorded parts of this era naked in the studio.
Most fans love the demo more than the official version because it sounded less commercial, with a stronger gothic atmosphere and Ville Valo’s unfiltered writing before label influence.
“Razorblade Kiss" demo happened at the exact moment HIM transitioned from Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666 darker era into the Razorblade Romance era. The birth of their signature sound: Love Metal.
Which version do you enjoy the most?... this demo or the official version?
