What’s in the box?! When I was in LA, I drove out to the filming location from Se7en to make this passion project with the immensely talented
@krystleferdinand and
@carla.valentine.3 Check out the inspo and the final shots. It was so surreal to be filming in the same desert and pay tribute to one of the most iconic movie endings of all time! Se7en holds a special place in my heart as one of inspirations for becoming a filmmaker- it’s such a masterpiece of directing, cinematography and production design.
This was a fun challenge, to try to pay homage to the shots, colour grade, tone and still tell our own story.
I had a few key shots in my head, like the car driving filmed on the telephoto lens to create that compression of the space – I’ve always loved that shot and the way it feels like the detectives are driving a spider’s web. For the colour grade, an American Society of Cinematographer Magazine article outlined how film processes like bleach bypass create the look. I rewatched one of the behind-the-scenes special features, which gave some great insights on how the grade was remastered for the blu-ray release.
We pulled this all off in one day! So proud of the results!
