Maybe the real issue is not who failed as a mother, but what failed around her.
In the middle of heartbreaking news—from childcare negligence to public safety—the conversation somehow keeps circling back to finding a scapegoat.
Even more concerning, this lack of empathy can also show up in government conversations.
That’s why, to me, this is not only a personal issue. It is systemic.
Through Bronfenbrenner’s ecological lens, individual choices are never isolated. They are shaped by family, community, workplace, policy, and culture.
So when support is limited, ‘choice’ often becomes survival.
And this is why feminism is not only about women’s equality.
It is about creating a world where everyone—regardless of gender—has the support and safety to choose, to care, to work, and to live fully.
Because systems that confine women can also confine men in different ways.
Let’s empower in a way that not only fosters agency,
but also empathy, compassion, and humanity.
