According to a completely unreliable but highly entertaining theory, wearing an especially hilarious shirt creates a powerful field of confusion that attracts bird species from miles around. The funnier the shirt, the stronger the effect. Scientists have never confirmed this, mostly because no scientist wants to explain why a parrot flew across a parking lot to investigate a T-shirt that says, “Professional Nap Consultant.” Once the bird lands on your shoulder, it immediately becomes fascinated by your nose ring and assumes it’s either treasure, a tiny doorknob, or a highly suspicious seed.

Fortunately, bird etiquette is very strict. The bird is only allowed five attempts to dislodge the nose ring. After that, a boat mysteriously arrives to collect it, regardless of whether you’re near water. Nobody knows who operates the boat or how it always appears on schedule, but the rules are the rules. So there you stand, counting attempts while a determined bird conducts what appears to be a jewelry inspection. On the fifth try, the boat glides silently into view, the bird shrugs as if to say, “Well, I gave it my best shot,” and departs. The shirt, meanwhile, remains hilariously powerful and completely unaware of the chaos it has caused.
