welcome to part one of my guide on The Art of Aesthetics — basically everything I’ve learned as a girl who went from directing commercials as an art director to content creator. I hope this inspires you to think of ‘aesthetics’ in a new way and start to see how these principles play a part in your everyday life 🤍

Feel free to drop any questions you’d like me to cover in the next chapter or comment ‘aesthetic’ for the substack!

The Unfiltered Reality of Starting a Small Business in Australia 🇦🇺

These photos capture the raw truth of our journey opening Calico bakehouse. Behind every smiling post are hours of endless tears, sleepless nights on the cold kitchen floor, and days we wanted to lock up and walk away.

We’ve worked 6 days a week, just the two of us, unable to afford staff. We’ve poured our savings (over $100k!) into this dream. We even did most of the renovations ourselves.

But honesty? We’re exhausted. Mental and physical burnout is real. We’ve had to make the incredibly tough decision to move to 3-day trading to try and recover and heal. We love what we do, but we’re not sure if we can keep going in hospitality. This is for our health, but it feels like we’re losing.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Please understand this difficult decision. We need this break to figure out if our passion can survive the grind.

✅ Opening Hours Update:
• Week of Oct 8th - 11th Open 4 days
• From Oct 16th onwards: Moving to 3-day operation.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and understanding.
