what’s a 10 hour flight when you’ve already been through hell?

There was a time when I couldn’t picture what our future would look like. When so much of what I had imagined for my daughter suddenly felt uncertain. I remember being afraid of all the things she might miss out on, the experiences she might not get to have, and the life that might look different from the one I had pictured for her.

And now, making sure she gets to see the world has become something of a mission for me.

I want her to see the places she’s dreamed of visiting. I want her to experience different cultures, try new things, meet new people, and collect memories that have nothing to do with hospitals or treatment. I want her to have a childhood full of adventures, and I want her to know that the world is a big, beautiful place with so much waiting for her.

Of course, traveling with little kids is hard sometimes. The packing, the logistics, the tiredness, the meltdowns. There are moments when it feels like a lot.

But when I think about the time when I wasn’t sure we’d get to do any of this, it’s hard not to feel grateful that we can.

I don’t want to rush through these years waiting for things to get easier, or spend so much time worrying about the little inconveniences that I forget how fortunate we are to be here, doing these things together.

The hard moments are part of it. So are the beautiful ones. And sometimes, the very things that test your patience are wrapped up in the life you once desperately hoped you’d get to have.

So yes, traveling with kids can be hard. But getting to show my kids the world, watching them experience it for the first time, and knowing that this is something I once wasn’t sure we’d have the chance to do?

That’s a privilege I never want to take for granted.

You definitely don’t deserve to be a parent !
