More than 43 million Americans have already cast their ballots in the 2026 midterm elections, with less than a week remaining before Election Day on November 3. According to the University of Florida Election Lab, approximately 4 to 5 million people are voting early each day, putting the country on pace for unusually high voter turnout. Texas is experiencing one of the biggest surges in early voting, with more than 5.8 million ballots already cast, approximately 1.75 million more than at the same point during the 2022 midterms. Researchers say Hispanic communities are showing particularly strong participation, especially in counties along the Texas-Mexico border. Black and Hispanic voter participation has also increased in states including Georgia, Florida and North Carolina. According to voter registration data from states that track political affiliation, Democrats account for 44% of early ballots, Republicans 31.2%, and unaffiliated voters 24.7%. However, these figures only represent states that report party affiliation and do not reveal which candidates people actually voted for. The surge comes as Americans prepare to decide which political party will control the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate for the next two years. Researchers say early voting could help produce one of the highest-turnout midterm elections in modern history, although the final results and which party benefits remain uncertain.
