This man celebrates his centenary tomorrow. In our lifetimes we have been lucky enough to hear, see and hopefully learn from his incredible love and understanding of nature. He should be king of the world…Happy birthday, David Attenborough.

The idea that one day I would have to leave this country is heartbreaking ...

Not because of the beach, or the weather, or the flat whites (okay, maybe a little because of the flat whites). But because of the people. The ones who started as strangers and became the people I build my whole week around. The ones who feel like family now.

So many of us living this expat life are quietly carrying this. You build a whole world somewhere, you find your people, your routines, your version of home and underneath it all there's this ache of "what if I can't stay." What if one day I have to say goodbye to people who are like family, simply because they can't stay in the country either.

We don't talk about this enough. How hard it is to love a place and the people in it, while holding this quiet uncertainty about the future.

To everyone out there building a found family somewhere far from where they started: I see you. This one's for us 🤍 .

At @colinking’s new Manhattan apartment, casement windows and a generous terrace look out across neighboring rooftops, the city unfolding in a postcard-perfect sweep. It is, in every sense, the most elevated space he has ever called home—filled with choice antiques, vintage treasures, and a growing collection of fine art. “Every time people visit they’ll say, Wow, so different for you,” he says. “But this side of me was always there.”

The creative polyglot and artistic director at large of @beni_rugs had until recently lived in a light-filled Tribeca loft, its limewashed walls a neutral backdrop to a spare mix of furnishings. But if that apartment was a calling card, it had also become a pigeonhole. “I got placed in a beige box,” he notes. Now, where his old apartment was all about “stripping it back,” his current digs lean into layers from the ground up, with a dynamic mix of furnishings spanning myriad eras and styles.
