In a world of texters, @adamfriedland is a self-described phone-call guy by necessity. Since launching his irreverent Dick Cavett–style conversation show in 2022 (@theadamfriedlandshow), he’s earned critical acclaim for cajoling a wide range of interview subjects into revelatory exchanges. (It’s the only program where you can see California governor Gavin Newsom tear up and 2 Chainz share a joint with the host.)

He’s also racked up over 100 million views on YouTube and can now summon the booking power of his cable counterparts. But his ascent has required some grind. “Late-night talk shows have hundreds of people working for them,” says Friedland. “We’ve had to bootstrap a lot.” At the link in bio, read as GQ's @alyssabereznak plays Friedland at his own game (interviewing, that is), and lives to tell the tale.

Julianne Bryan was on her way to work the morning of Aug. 24 when her phone rang. It was her cousin, and then more relatives, all with the same news: her son had been kidnapped at gunpoint in Jamaica.

Almost two months later, Trevon Bryan, a 27-year-old from the Toronto area, is still missing.

A senior officer with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) told the Star Bryan’s abduction “appears very targeted” and isolated in nature.

Senior Supt. Mark Harris, the commanding officer for the St. Andrew Central Police Division, said that the motive behind Bryan’s kidnapping remains unclear but “we just know that he was taken away without any trace.”

Bryan was reported missing to the JCF on Aug. 24, by his aunt in Canada, who notified police that he had been abducted by an unknown gunmen.

Harris said Bryan, a rapper known as “Yung Drilla,” was abducted by four masked men sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m on Aug. 24.

Bryan arrived in Jamaica on Aug. 18 from Canada and checked into an Airbnb in Montego Bay.

“He went to Kingston (the capital) for the weekend accompanied by three persons including two females from Toronto,” Harris said.

He said Bryan and the group went to a party at the Taboo nightclub then drove to an after party in August Town, a community located about 9 kilometres away from the club.

Harris said the vehicle Bryan was travelling in had stopped along the roadway when they were approached by suspects.

“Whilst on their way it is alleged that four armed men intercepted the vehicle they were travelling in and took Mr. Bryan from the vehicle.”

“We believe that the person of interest caused the stop to happen, so that they could get him,” Harris told the Star.

None of the other occupants of the vehicle were harmed or robbed, Harris said.

Police took statements from two Toronto women who were in the car with Bryan that morning. They are looking to speak to a Canadian man they are calling a person of interest, who has since left the island for Canada.

“We would like to speak to him because he was present at the ti
