President Donald Trump has accused Europe of hypocrisy after facing backlashing for lifting sanctions against Russia for diesel exports.

The US leader announced a deal with president Vladimir Putin on Friday, allowing Moscow to supply diesel to global markets. He said the US would import 300,000 tons of the fuel as energy prices soar.

However, he faced criticism from European leaders with the EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas reminding Washington that “Russia has started this war. We should not forget this.”

71-yr-old lady sentenced to 20 years in prison for the m¥rders of her 3 great-grandchildren

A 71-year-old South African woman, Susana “Sarie” De Villiers, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for k+lling her three great-grandchildren after driving a vehicle off a mountain pass in 2021.

According to South African news outlet Nova News, De Villiers was sentenced on Thursday by the Worcester Regional Court in the Western Cape. She had pleaded guilty to the three m¥rders in March 2025.

The victims were identified as Caleb Booysen, eight, Gradwell Booysen, five; and Joshua Booysen, 18 months old.

The incident happened on November 20, 2021, when the children were visiting De Villiers and other relatives at her home in Wellington. She was expected to drive them home that day, but they never arrived.

Eyewitnesses reportedly told authorities that roadworks were underway along Bainskloof Pass, with traffic officers controlling vehicles at designated stop and go points. However, De Villiers allegedly drove past the control points without stopping and went through a closed boom gate.

Traffic officers stopped other motorists to prevent a potential head-on collision. When her vehicle failed to reach a fourth control point, a patrol vehicle was sent to investigate.

The car was subsequently discovered off the road, having plunged down the pass.

Caleb and Gradwell d+ed at the scene, while Joshua briefly survived before succumbing to his inj¥ries. Poor weather conditions prevented a rescue helicopter from reaching the location, forcing rescuers to carry the toddler up to the road.

Although the court imposed 20 years’ imprisonment for each of the three m¥rders, it ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning De Villiers will serve 20 years in total. She was also declared unfit to possess a f+rearm.

During Thursday’s proceedings, magistrate Clifton Maseti revoked her release on warning and issued a warrant committing her to prison.
