The USS Abraham Lincoln is returning to San Diego after more than 300 days at sea, ending an extended Middle East deployment that kept roughly 7,500 personnel away from home.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged that he personally approved two extensions to the carrier’s deployment, telling sailors he had been the “only thing standing between you and home.”

Despite criticism over the prolonged mission, spirits were high aboard the ship ahead of Thursday’s homecoming, with sailors celebrating, running a 5K and enjoying live music on deck.

Traders predict a 40% chance there will be a U.S.-Iran Hormuz agreement this year.

The United States has reportedly suspended labour certifications linked to several major Indian IT companies, including Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Cognizant. The development has raised concerns about employment-based immigration, particularly H-1B visas and employment-based green cards. However, labour certification is primarily associated with certain permanent residency applications, and its suspension does not automatically cancel existing H-1B visas or green cards.
On October 8, the Trump administration announced that the US Labour Department would stop accepting new applications and processing pending cases under the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programme for eight major technology companies, including Microsoft and Adobe. US officials cited suspected immigration programme misuse and concerns about American jobs. The decision could delay green card applications for thousands of skilled foreign workers, particularly Indians, while existing H-1B visas remain valid
