Nature Conservation 🫡👊🌍
(FIRSTLY DO NOT GO OUT THERE AND DO THIS YOURSELF)
Most Animals do not know you are trying to help and I’ve done this enough times to kinda know where my limits are…
There is a proper protocol that minimises risk and We at the
@dyerict use a very similar SOP as the legends
@oceanconservationnamibia to safely disentangle most of our seals.
In this case we were fearful that we might not get another Chance with this seal and I went out Solo without proper Gear.
That being Said,
There are many “things” on our beautiful Planet that happen that immediately unite us all. Stuff like a World Cup for a Country, A massive Natural Disaster, a War… Something that strips away race, religion, status, wealth.. And for a short period of time there is no black or white or everything in between… For a short time we’re all just united as people of earth with a common goal.
I have this experience with animals all the time, seeing an animal in distress changes you forever, The true fear in their eyes, the pain, the sorrow, the uncertainty, real Horror… Of course the same could be said for their Joy, curiosity and often times Clumsiness..
The point is Simple though: You immediately realise that there is no line between human and animal, and watching a cape fur seal slowly dying of starvation and doing nothing about it is exactly like watching a person lying there starving.. ITS EXACTLY THE SAME.
I’ve almost drowned, been bitten severely more times than I could count by all types of animals, been pulled down by entangled whales and I would do it again every single time.
We have a Marine Dynamics Academy, where we have a volunteer and internship program where anyone can come learn, work, and help us with our conservation and various other projects with Sharks, Whales, Dolphins, Seals, Penguins and the list goes on…
We are based in South Africa and This was one of our volunteer ocean monitoring trips.. Thanks
@jotaemef for flying the drone and
@ilizna99 for understanding my instructions on how not to crash the boat.
