Neighbors, get into this! Some college programs could lose access to federal student loans if their graduates aren’t earning enough under a new rule finalized by the Trump administration.
——
Programs that fail federal earnings benchmarks in two out of three consecutive years will lose eligibility for federal Direct Loans. Undergraduate programs must show graduates typically earn more than workers with only a high school diploma, while graduate programs are compared with workers who hold bachelor’s degrees.
—-
Certain social work, arts, early childhood education and cosmetology programs could be affected. However, this isn’t a blanket ban on those majors, each program’s earnings results matter. The rule’s main provisions take effect July 1, 2027.

The administration says the policy will hold schools accountable for programs that leave students without a financial payoff. Critics warn it could make training for important but lower-paying careers harder to afford. Thoughts? 💭

✧ Full credit and enormous thanks to Classic Rock Media Archive for scanning, preserving and sharing this extraordinary Super 8 footage, filmed by Bill Wilson at the Civic Center in Springfield, Massachusetts on February 3, 1977.

Please visit Classic Rock Media Archive on YouTube to watch the complete film. Seeing these moments from Queen’s A Day at the Races tour with this kind of clarity nearly fifty years later is such a gift.

✧ A little note about this edit: it isn’t a full song or continuous performance. The original film captures different fragments from the concert, so this one-minute reel moves quickly too, almost like a little visual medley of the night.

And there are so many beautiful details.

Freddie in the black leotard, reaching one hand behind him as someone offstage places the tambourine straight into it. Those signature movements from this period…throwing his head back, arching his body, turning every second into theatre. Freddie and John together during “Liar.”

And then the kimono.

Freddie slowly working at the ties, teasing the reveal, throwing it open with all the drama in the world before “Big Spender” and “Jailhouse Rock.”

That’s really what this edit is about for me, not following one full performance, but getting to see these little flashes from that night so clearly now.

Thank you again to Classic Rock Media Archive for preserving and sharing this film, and to Bill Wilson for capturing it in the first place.
