The Bedouin of the Sinai are semi-nomadic Arab pastoral tribes who inhabit the sacred mountains. They have adapted their ancestral desert life to the 21st century by working in tourism, fishing, and crafts.
-Gebeliya Tribe: Known as "the people of the mountains," they are descendants of the soldiers sent in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian to protect Saint Catherine's Monastery.
-Culture: They are very hospitable, masters of desert survival, and famous for their traditional stews, bread baked in the taboon (a traditional oven), and their distinctive aromatic tea.
