A TV debate can make two people fight over religion. But who is debating the state of India’s government schools?

Bring a Muslim guest, bring a baba, put them opposite each other, and turn religion into a spectacle. The argument lasts 30 minutes. The channel gets its TRPs. And the audience is left with more reasons to hate its neighbours.

But when was the last time prime-time television gave the same attention to the problems facing government schools?

India’s government-school count fell by roughly 94,000 between 2014–15 and 2024–25, according to figures cited in a NITI Aayog report. Yet the question of why schools are disappearing deserves far more public scrutiny.

If fewer children are enrolling, shouldn’t the government be asking how to bring them back? Why should shutting down schools become the answer?

When religious fights get more airtime than education, whose problems is the media actually reporting?

지금 머리 길이가 딱 거지존😭

조금 더 자를까? 아니면 꾹 참고 길러볼까??

My hair is at that awkward ”in-between“
length right now 😭
Should I cut it a bit more,
or just tough it out and keep growing it??

A 30-foot-tall cockroach effigy will be burned alongside Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad at the Shree Keshav Ram Leela Committee’s event in Pitampura, Delhi. Organisers say it symbolises filth and dirt and promotes cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Delhi campaigns, while denying any political motive.
