On June 8, #AnthonyTyroneGresham, 42, of Lithia Springs was charged with committing an act of violence with the intent to cause serious bodily injury on a mass transportation system. He also faced charges for possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in connection with a violent crime. According to federal prosecutors, Gresham allegedly opened fire on a MARTA train at the Midtown Station on June 5, wounding a teenager before fleeing the scene.

In a statement issued by attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg, he noted that “Gresham was allegedly undeterred by decades of prosecution for robberies, drug trafficking, and other crimes, which underscores the need for federal intervention in this case.” Seventeen-year-old #JVonEasterling boarded a MARTA train that was stopped at the Midtown Station in Atlanta last Friday. Gresham allegedly entered the train where J’Von was seated, pulled a handgun from a bag, and fired three times in the boy’s direction. According to the Department of Justice, Gresham has an extensive criminal history that prohibits him from legally possessing firearms or ammunition. Prosecutors indicated that his prior felony convictions span at least three counties in Georgia.

Gresham is now the second person federally charged within the past week in connection with violent attacks on the MARTA system. He is expected to appear in federal court at a later date. J’Von has been hospitalized with multiple bullet wounds and extensive injuries to his hand and leg.
