Have you ever had an art supply that you’ve felt a bit scared to use? Like the ones that you’ve seen amazing artists create with, or really expensive supplies, and then suddenly you have them in your hands and the pressure to create ‘good’ art is sooo strong?

Well that’s what these Nicker paints were to me, so I just decided to go for it and stop holding myself back!! These paints are used by the incredible artists at Studio Ghibli for background art, and used by very talented artists in Japan in general. I’d originally planned on doing a master study but I was seriously overthinking it, so I did what I love, and painted a landscape.

The funny thing is that it still has that Ghibli-vibe, don’t you think? It feels like me, but also not. I think that’s because of the brighter, more vivid colours but there’s definitely something here that feels different. I actually wasn’t sure if I liked it at first but I love it now - a bit of space truly does wonders when we try new things. Anyway I could write about this for hours but I’ll leave it for my YT video! I’ll be sharing a video about this topic and my thoughts on these paints on Sunday 🤗
