This look hits me close, Scoliosis is commonly associated with ‘back pain’ or ‘bad posture’ when in reality, it is a disability. It changes your day to day life immensely. I, and many others had to, and are going through this journey silently and alone because to any other individual “it’s just back pain”. Countless hospital visits, a number of medical braces, endless bullying and 4 years of pain led me to getting a ‘Spinal Fusion’ which corrected most of the curvature in my spine. I relearnt how to walk, sit and do life all over again. My scars are my little battle wounds, they are art which show me I can overcome the biggest of challenges. Abigail Kuhn states that “some roses grow with crooked stems but that doesn’t change their beauty”. I couldn’t agree more. Hairdressing is my passion, I should not have to put my dreams aside over a diagnosis. With this, I hope to spread awareness about scoliosis and spine health and prove that you are stronger than you think.
