The Parthenon has almost no straight lines. That's why it looks perfect.

The Parthenon has almost no straight lines and that's exactly why it looks perfect. Built in about 9 years from 22,000 tons of marble hauled 16 km from a mountain, it holds 13,400 blocks, each cut for one place only.

No mortar just iron clamps sealed in molten lead. Every column swells slightly in the middle. The floor arches up about 6 cm.

The columns lean inward so subtly that, extended, they'd meet 2.4 km in the sky. Not mistakes corrections for the human eye. It survived earthquakes, fire, and a 1687 gunpowder blast.

Follow @rootxdeep for ancient genius we still can't match.
