This is last year’s Father’s Day. Two months after we found out my Dad had a rare aggressive cancer. Jake took my family on a fishing charter he won. That’s all my Dad wanted to do— move to Florida + fish. Seeing the joy on my Dad’s face on that boat— filled my heart with such joy. I cherish that weekend beyond words. So grateful.

I spent the day today serving tea to Jess’ YTT graduates. My first tea ceremony since he died. Brought a photo of him along and his prayer stone. Felt good to be in the presence of what is. Still learning to accept what is.

I put this song on the playlist. It made me envision my Dad as a little boy, in the back of an old 1970’s car, windows down, wind blowin, sunshine on his face, even if he was just goin’ down the street— he was on his own great big adventure. ✨☀️💛

We very much did catch fish— and throw it on the grill that night. 😌

❤️ Grief ebbs and flows and the only thing I’ve ever heard that gave me any sense of comfort was - grief in a way is a gift, because what a gift to have had all that love and to carry it still.

We spoke about the concept of time yesterday pertaining to tea ceremonies and how time seems to not exist in that space. It’s the same with grief… time seems to bend. It seems like it was just yesterday you all went fishing & yet how has it been a year already. I felt Dan with us in ceremony and know he was smiling the whole time. What a beautiful way to honor him by pouring your love into others and holding space for people to come back to themselves & teach them the art of the scared silly goose. You’re a gem & a real treasure to so many.

I remember the day you sent these photos, it’s hard to believe it’s been one full year. I know he’s fishing and grilling and tunin’ and cruisin’ in the heavens, smiling down on his sweet girls💛💛💛
