Sometimes we don’t tell our friends how much we appreciate them enough. We get so used to certain people in our lives that we forget to say how grateful we are for them. And it isn’t always about the big things they’ve done for us. Sometimes it’s remembering something important we mentioned weeks ago. Checking in when we’ve had a difficult day. Or simply making us feel included, understood, and cared for without even trying. I think those little gestures stay with us longer than people realize. As I get older, I’m learning that gratitude doesn’t always need a special occasion. We don’t have to wait for a birthday, a celebration, or a difficult moment to tell someone they matter. Sometimes it’s enough to send a message on an ordinary day and let them know they’ve made a difference in our lives. Because the people who bring us happiness and comfort deserve to know how much they’re appreciated while they’re here to hear it. Greetings from the Old Rectory, where we’ve been celebrating Halloween, with pumpkins, sparklers, and toasted marshmallows beside a bonfire in the garden. If these were the delightful treats, then a couple of unexpected tricks manifested in the form of minor domestic mishaps (my son got locked in a bathroom, when the door handle broke, and a temporary problem with the water supply caused some consternation). Fortunately, peace has now settled over the house, and I’m about to head up to bed. Here’s hoping all is well with you and yours - and I’m sending warm wishes, as always, and waving from the Waveney Valley…
