As urban heat islands intensify, vegetation mitigates rising temperatures, yet green wall systems remain costly and hard to implement.
‘Breathing Interfaces’ investigates a flexible, bio-receptive material for urban applications. Bio-receptivity refers to a material’s ability to be colonised by living organisms. Combining sodium alginate, seeds, and fibres, it supports vegetation growth, passive cooling, and carbon capture with reduced water input.
Where most bio-receptive systems are rigid and heavy, Breathing Interfaces proposes a lightweight, flexible alternative for façades and urban shading.
