Rough day for Sen. Ted Cruz. On his podcast, he told listeners, “Texas is blue,” then noted he’s the state’s last remaining Republican elected statewide. It’s not often the person calling the play-by-play is also the last one left on the field.

Democratic state Rep. James Talarico beat Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for U.S. Senate. Gina Hinojosa unseated Gov. Greg Abbott. Democrats also won lieutenant governor and attorney general, and flipped the Texas House.

Before this week, Democrats hadn’t won a statewide race in Texas since 1994.
