Hi Friends- my favorite boy in the whole world will be undergoing another major surgery tomorrow, June 2, to try to remove as much of his tumor as possible.

We received a call last week, from his team, letting us know that they found a bleed in his tumor; he’s essentially had a stroke. This happened sometime between the biopsy on 5/13 and his radiation sim on the 21st. We are lucky it was found.

This accounts for his increased weakness, sleepiness and potentially, the chemo reaction last week.

However, because an ongoing bleed is so dangerous, the rewards of surgery now outweigh the risks. The goal will be to remove as much of the tumor as possible in an attempt to stop future bleeds. The surgeon will have to stop short of the tumor that has grown down and around his brain stem. We will radiate the remaining tumor as soon as it’s safe.

Surgery is scheduled for 9 am tomorrow and is expected to last 4-6 hours. They told us anything less than a week in the hospital would be great but that he could be there for several weeks, including inpatient rehab on the 4th floor, as they have warned us that he could be further impacted physically.

He is handling it very well and reminds me there’s no point in worrying about it. His faith and approach are staggering to me; he is teaching me at this point.

What we need most are prayers. I don’t even know for what at this point. ALL the things! 😊
