I really think the fear of looking like you’re trying too hard, or being cringe, is one of the biggest things that can end up holding us back from doing what we really LOVE in life, so if you comment comment ‘cringe’, I’ll send you an episode all about how to stop living with that fear (or at least get rid of some of it!)

I feel like especially in the UK there’s still this underlying fear of being seen trying too hard, wanting too much, or taking yourself too seriously. But when I look back at my own life, almost every single thing that changed it for the better started with something that felt deeply embarrassing at first. Posting workout videos as a teenager. Vlogging at uni. Launching products. Public speaking. Starting this podcast. None of it felt cool in the beginning, and even though I really wanted to do them all, the thought of launching them publically made me want to crawl out of my skin.

But I think the fear of being cringe is usually just the fear of being seen trying, and the people who actually build interesting lives are normally the ones willing to push through that feeling.

So this episode is basically me unpacking all of that, the psychology behind why we care so much about what people think, why we massively overestimate how much people are paying attention to us, and the practical things that have genuinely helped me stop letting fear of perception make my decisions for me.
