If you spend a lot of time driving and feel stiff, achy, or uncomfortable when you get out of the car, your seat setup may be contributing to the problem. Most people focus on the drive itself, but very few pay attention to how they’re sitting for hours at a time. A few simple adjustments can make a big difference: • Lower the seat slightly so your knees are level with or just a little lower than your hips. This can reduce prolonged hip flexion and may help decrease stress on the front of the hips. • Recline the backrest slightly instead of sitting perfectly upright. This often reduces strain through the neck, shoulders, and upper back. • If your lower back feels unsupported, try placing a small rolled towel in the natural curve of your lumbar spine to help maintain a more comfortable position. • If your vehicle doesn’t offer enough adjustment options, products like a wedge cushion or BackJoy may help improve sitting mechanics and comfort. • During long drives, periodically squeezing your glutes at stoplights or while using cruise control can help promote circulation and encourage muscle activation after extended sitting. No seat position is perfect forever. The real goal is to avoid staying in one position for hours at a time. Small adjustments + occasional movement = a much happier body when you reach your destination.
