Back in 1977 BMW became the first manufacturer to offer driver training courses. You could sign up and drive an E21 320i with instructors straight from the motorsport field. Fast forward nearly 50 years and the only thing that changed is instead of a 320i, you’re now handed the keys to brand new M cars. In my case this past week a M4 GT4 race car.
My on track experience comes almost entirely from a first generation M3 with ~200hp(generous) so I was a bit intimidated to get behind the wheel of BMW’s newest 500hp race car but MAN was it a good time. Shed a stock g8x’s weight, add non assisted AP brakes(think pushing your leg into a brick wall), deck it out with the highest tech racing gear and you have yourself a car that even a guy that prefers to track a 40 year old car can love.
Fun fact: What do an E34 M5 and a GT4 M4 have in common?? They were both built in BMW M’s Garching facility.
Thank you
