AI is helping developers recreate popular software, with Brandon Thomas expanding his ArtCraft project beyond Adobe alternatives.

Using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5, he developed WordCraft, GridCraft, and DeckCraft to compete with Microsoft Office apps.

All 3 applications are built in Rust, available as free open-source projects, and designed for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The developer reports up to 98% coverage of certain Excel functions, although the software remains in early alpha development.
