Today was so special 🩷

If I’m honest, I almost didn’t do a book launch. I’ve spent most of my life minimising my wins and quietly moving on because that’s what so many of us women do. We celebrate everyone else & convince ourselves our own milestones aren’t worth making a fuss about. Thank goodness for good friends!

My lovely friend @cocogram90 encouraged me to mark the publication of The Mother Load with a wee event @maisonbyglaschu & I’m so glad she did 🥹

This afternoon I found myself surrounded by mothers from all generations and it was everything I hoped it would be. We chatted about motherhood in all its messy, beautiful complexity - the joy, the exhaustion, the love, the guilt, the identity shifts and all the things so many of us carry but don’t always say out loud. We laughed, we cried, we hugged and, for me, there is something really healing about being surrounded by women who just get it. You don’t have to try hard around women like that. Special thank you to @pinktartandolly for hosting it 🙏🏽

This book has been a long labour of love. It’s such an important book for mothers at every stage - from pregnancy and the postnatal years right through to perimenopause and beyond - because motherhood doesn’t just end at the postnatal check. Maternal health is a lifelong journey, yet there are surprisingly few resources that look at the whole picture. It’s been a privilege to help raise awareness and contribute to that conversation through this book and make mothers feel seen and valued at every stage of the journey.

Having my mum, my sister, dear friends, new friends, my husband and my children there made the day even more special. Then, just when I thought my heart couldn’t be any fuller, through the door walked Dr Thompson…

This is the woman who taught me to be the GP I am today. The woman who watched me grow from a trainee doctor into a GP, wife and mother, guiding me through so many chapters of my life along the way. When she asked me to sign her copy, I burst into tears. A full-circle moment I’ll remember forever.
